Talk Maths Year 5 app for iPhone and iPad

Talk Maths is a fun way to get children talking about maths and working together to solve problems. This app provides four games to help children practise their mathematical vocabulary and speaking and listening skills.

Talk Maths is designed for pairs of children using iPads in school.

One child plays ‘blue’ and the other plays ‘green’, with each child having their own colour-coded area of the screen.

Talk Maths Year 5 is aimed at children aged 9-10 (England Year 5). This app provides four games, each differentiated at four levels.
1-dot is aimed at children who need Support
2-dot is for the Core of your class
3-dot is for children you want to Extend
4-dot provides an extra-hard Challenge!

Number Sums – make the sides of the triangle equal
1-dot: make a total of 15; there is one mystery number
2-dot: make a total of 15; there are two mystery numbers
3-dot: make a total of 30; there are two mystery numbers
4-dot: make a total of 45; there are two mystery numbers

Dominoes – match the capacities
1-dot: halves, quarters and tenths of litres; millilitres
2-dot: halves, quarters, tenths and hundredths of litres; millilitres
3-dot: as 2-dot, but some are written in decimals
4-dot: wider range of fractions of litres, written as fractions and decimals

Marble Run – adjust the function machine to make the target number
1-dot: input value 50, targets 2500, 2.5, 500 and 25
2-dot: input value 20, targets 1250, 0.1, 10000 and 10
3-dot: input value 20, targets 25000, 0.5, 4 and 200
4-dot: input value 50, targets 80, 1250, 0.1, 0.05

Mystery Number – use clues to eliminate digits and find the mystery 5-digit number
1-dot: clue vocab: greater than, three times, half of, even, odd, divisible by 2
2-dot: clue vocab: double, twice, even, odd, multiple of 2/3/4, divisible by 4
3-dot: clue vocab: double, even, multiple of 2/3/8, divisible by 4/5
4-dot: clue vocab: three greater, four less, multiple of 4/5/6, divisible by 5
